The class will begin with a refresher/reintroduction to the basics of musical improvisation: the spontaneous creation of songs and musical performance pieces using principles of rhythm, rhyme, narrative, and melodic/harmonic structure, in combination with improv techniques. We will then focus on personal narrative: taking stories from our own lives and setting them to music!
Limit: 20 Students
Requirements: Some experience with basic improv OR singing

Noel Katz and Larry Rosen have been team-teaching musical improvisation for 20 years through such notable institutions as ANDTheatre Company, The People’s Improv Theater, and Second City.
Noel, a renowned composer, lyricist, and book writer, has created musicals such as Such Good Friends, which won raves and five awards at the New York Musical Theatre Festival, Area 51, which starred many legendary improvisers, and his actual wedding to Joy Dewing, which got full page coverage in The New York Times.
Larry has been teaching, coaching, and directing theater, improv, sketch comedy, and storytelling since 1994. Drop Six, the sketch troupe he co-founded with Second City students, appeared in five theater and comedy festivals and won Best of the Festival at Toronto Sketchfest. Larry is currently a master storytelling instructor with The Moth.
