The class will begin with a refresher/reintroduction to the basics of musical improvisation: the spontaneous creation of songs and musical performance pieces using principles of rhythm, rhyme, narrative, and melodic/harmonic structure, in combination with improv techniques. We will then focus on narrative structures – both personal and fictional – creating stories and setting them to music!
Limit: 20 Students
Requirements: Some experience with basic improv OR singing

Larry Rosen and John Prestianni have been co-songwriters and co-performers for 20 years.
Larry has taught, coached, and directed theater, improv, sketch comedy, and storytelling in New York and LA since 1994. Drop Six, the sketch troupe Larry co-founded with Second City students, appeared in five theater and comedy festivals and won Best of the Festival at Toronto Sketchfest. He is currently a master storytelling instructor with The Moth.
John is a composer, musical director, vocal coach, dance accompanist, and freelance musician. He currently teaches at LaGuardia High School; the Neighborhood Playhouse, and NYU, and through youth and adult programs at the YMCA. John’s musicals Elsie Janis and the Boys and The Black Dahlia have been performed at notable NYC venues including the York Theatre Company.
