Learn the tools needed to take your silly ideas from brain to stage. This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of writing comedic sketches. Participants will learn a base understanding of the various styles of sketch comedy while giving you an opportunity to create your own sketches.
In addition to writing assignments, all students will participate in classroom readings and feedback discussions. These tasks are included to make the student a better writer and comedian. It is your art to create and complete.
This course will culminate with a live sketch performance on the final class Tuesday, November 14th in Theater 54.
*Materials will be provided by the teacher, but all students should have access to a computer and/or printer and should bring something to take notes during class.
Limit: 10 Students
Adrienne Cooper has studied with some of the top comedic writers in the country, representing various institutions, including Second City and Upright Citizens Brigade. Her work has been performed by icons like Mo Rocca, who hosted the Taste Talks Awards, which she wrote the script for. She created a show, called The Food Funny, where she combines her love of food and comedy. She regularly contributes improv and sketch to the ANDTheater Company’s various shows as a member of the ANDsemble.
Her comedic philosophy is about finding the framework that best works for your voice, instead of trying to force the funny out of a broad set of rules.
